Description

He Merely Struts! by Willard Frederic Elmes (Mather & Company, 1929). Fine on Linen. Work Incentive Poster (36" X 43.5").
Willard Frederic Elmes employs the dazzling plumage of a strutting peacock to create an eye-catching visual warning against arrogance and vanity in this work incentive poster. With its rich colors, bold typography, and memorable slogan, "Ability Needs No Fine Feathers," the design delivers a clear message that true talent and character require no flashy display. The borders have been heavily airbrushed and touchup has been applied minimally to the interior to address edge wear, creases and handling wear, several tears, and a few chips further corrected by replacement. There is some cracking and chipping to the restoration along the left border and slight creasing to the selvage.
