Description

World War II Propaganda (U.S. Government Printing Office, 1941). Fine+ on Linen. Navy Recruitment Poster (28.25" X 42") McClelland Barclay Artwork. "Fight Let's Go! Join the Navy." War.
Featuring a bold and aspirational image, this vintage World War II U.S. Navy recruiting poster shows a sailor in service dress blue confidently striding up a gangplank, a large white sea bag slung over his shoulder as aircraft soar overhead and a warship looms in the background. Titled "Fight, Let's Go! Join the Navy", the poster was created in 1941 by acclaimed American illustrator and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander McClelland Barclay (1891-1943), whose dynamic, heroic style became synonymous with wartime recruitment imagery. Issued to encourage enlistment at the outset of U.S. involvement in World War II, the poster combines patriotism and motion with localized recruiting details-"APPLY - 7TH FLOOR, 225 SOUTH CLARK ST."-making it both a powerful piece of propaganda and a compelling artifact of American military and graphic design history. A restored poster with good color and an overall very presentable appearance. Touch-up has been applied to the interior folds to address chips and wear. Some flaws such toning, lifts, creasing, and unobtrusive smudging still remain visible. Grades on all restored items are pre-restoration grades.
