    Description

Theodora Goes Wild (Columbia, 1936). One Sheet (27" X 41").
In his book, Romantic Comedy in Hollywood, James Harvey calls Theodora Goes Wild "the precursor and paradigm of almost every important romantic comedy to follow it," and Sidney Buchman's script "one of the most brilliantly constructed in the screwball cycle." Irene Dunne plays Theodora, a woman who leads a double life, as an organist in a small town and as the author of racy romance novels. When she travels to New York and meets the illustrator of her novels, played by Melvyn Douglas, the sparks begin to fly, leading to gossip and rumors galore in her hometown. This was Dunne's first try at humor and she was bitterly opposed to it initially. The film changed her career direction. Over the next few years, Dunne would reach the height of her popularity with such comedy classics as The Awful Truth (1937), Love Affair (1939), and My Favorite Wife (1940). This gorgeous poster had minor fold separation and a spot where a bit of marker used on the backside had bled through to the front. There were border pinholes, a small tear in the title, a tear above Dunne's hand, and small tack holes above her head. With magnificent conservation the poster now appears near mint! Fine on Linen.
