    Description

The Pigeon That Took Rome by Roger Soubie (Paramount, 1962). Rolled, Fine-. Signed Original Gouache Artwork on Paper (46" X 61.75") used for French Grande .
Remembered for his work on a myriad of French movie posters, artist Roger Soubie gives this WWII comedy a dramatic treatment in his gorgeous gouache illustration for the film. Both Charlton Heston and Elsa Martinelli are beautifully rendered in larger than life portraits, which can be found on the French grandes produced for the picture. This unique piece has been signed by the artist, and has such signs of usage like edge wear, mild creasing, pinholes towards the edges, and moderate tears. There is a tear from the top edge into Elsa Martinelli's hair and a tear at the bottom edge that extends nearly up to Heston's leg in the image. The tears have both been braced with paper tape on the verso. The piece has a tape stain at the upper edge, some surface scuffing, as well as smudges. There are penciled printer's notations and registration marks in the interior used during the production process for the poster. Rolled, Fine-.
