Description
The Philadelphia Story (MGM, 1940). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style D.Not seen at Heritage in nearly ten years, this poster is from one of the best comedies to come out of Hollywood's Golden Age. Of course, with a lead cast consisting of Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart under the direction of George Cukor, who could expect otherwise? In a role that was specifically written for her to perform on the Broadway stage, it was with this film that Hepburn shook off the disparaging title of "box office poison" and made a massive comeback in her career. The picture was nominated for a total of six Academy Awards (including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress) with James Stewart taking home the Oscar for Best Actor. All three of the movie's main stars appear on this exceptionally scarce one sheet, which once displayed fold wear and separations, misfolds, pinholes, and some small chips and tears. Also addressed was a tear in the credits near the top of the vertical fold. To complete the poster's restoration, the borders have been mostly airbrushed.
