The Great Dictator (United Artists, 1940). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Charlie Chaplin plays Adenoid Hynkel, the dictator of Tomania in this, his first all-speaking film. He is also a Jewish barber who so greatly resembles Hynkel that he is mistakenly given the opportunity to give a radio address posing as the leader. This film, obviously a satire on Hitler, was banned in the Nazi-controlled countries, but Hitler did get a copy and screened it twice. According to Chaplin, "I'd give anything to know what he thought of it." This lobby card has multiple pinholes with tears and a chip, a splotch of paint on the border, soiling and a few stains, and a few scuffs. A poignant shot of Chaplin as the Jewish barber. Very Good+.Please see full-color, enlargeable images above for more details.
