Description

The Fleet's In (Paramount, 1928). Very Good+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
Clara Bow and James Hall star in this romance between a sailor and a dance hall hostess, and it proved to be a popular success for Bow and a career performance for Hall, who would co-star again with Bow the following year in The Saturday Night Kid. Over 300 servicemen were given roles during filming. Bow's career was cresting when she completed four films in 1928 as Paramount's top attraction, though sadly all are now lost. Adolph Zukor, head of Paramount, said that "She danced even when her feet weren't moving. Some part of her was always in motion if only her great, rolling eyes. It was an elemental magnetism, an animal vitality, that made her the center of attraction in any company." This effervescent poster is also one of the finest one-sheets from any Bow movie and it is offered for the first time by Heritage.. This popular story was remade in 1936 as Lady Be Careful starring Lew Ayres and Mary Carlisle, in 1942 starring Dorothy Lamour and William Holden, and in 1952, as Sailor Beware, starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Professional restoration addressed paper loss to the borders, creases throughout, crossfold separation, chips, and tears to the lettering. Parts of the borders were replaced and airbrushed, touchup was applied to the folds, and crossfolds, color touch was applied to the lettering, and parts of the image were airbrushed.
