Description

The Bank (Essanay, 1915). One Sheet (28" X 42").
In 1914, Charlie Chaplin left Keystone Studios, where he had made his mark in comedy shorts and took an offer from Essanay Studios. He would make 14 shorts in 1915 for Essanay and during that year the comic's films would expand from the broad slapstick of the Sennett years to a much more disciplined style with better story and character development. Offered in this lot is an exceedingly scarce one sheet to The Bank, Chaplin's tenth short for Essanay. This vibrant and beautiful poster has an image actually taken from the short The Tramp, another of his earlier Essanay shorts. Prior to professional restoration, the poster had small border tears, and some fold wear with another vertical fold present. There was a small chip off of the upper left corner within the border only and the poster has had color touchup throughout to correct some color fading. This is believed to be one of only two copies of this poster extant. Very Good/Fine on Linen.
