Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (Columbia, 1936). Very Fine on Linen. Italian Foglio (27" X 34").
A small-town tuba player and greeting card poet Longfellow Deeds (played masterfully by Gary Cooper) inherits $20 million and travels to New York City to settle the estate, where he's mocked by the media and preyed on by opportunists. A reporter, Babe Bennett (Jean Arthur), pretends to befriend him for a scoop but grows to admire his sincerity and innocence. Disillusioned by the greed of those he meets, Deeds decides to give his fortune to poor farmers, but his generosity is misinterpreted as madness, and he's taken to court. In a powerful defense, Deeds proves his sanity and decency, emerging as a symbol of integrity and common sense in this classic film directed by Frank Capra. Backed to linen, there has been minimal touchup to the fold areas. The borders have also been airbrushed. Thanks to these efforts the poster presents wonderfully.
