Description
Moulin Rouge (United Artists, 1934). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 40.5").In this pre-Code comedy (unrelated to the later films of the same name), Constance Bennett tackles a dual role, swapping between a reluctant housewife and her vivacious nightclub singer best friend. Franchot Tone portrays the unsuspecting husband, who finds himself entangled in a bizarre love triangle-nearly falling into an affair with his own wife. Moulin Rouge featured songs by the legendary duo of Harry Warren and Al Dubin, including the hits "Coffee in the Morning and Kisses in the Night" and "The Boulevard of Broken Dreams". This likeness of Bennett with a halo of showgirls is arguably as stunning as pre-Code posters come. Light fold wear, paper lifts on verso, and small tears have been expertly addressed, and the top and bottom borders have been extensively airbrushed.
