Description

Moonshine (Paramount, 1918). Very Fine-. Lobby Card (11" X 14").
After the 18th amendment prohibited the sale and manufacture of alcohol, Paramount wasted no time in creating a short comedy about illegal moonshiners. The film sees the comedy duo of Fatty Arbuckle and Buster Keaton as treasury agents investigating a band of mountain men producing liquor and attempting to bust them. Moonshine was the ninth of fourteen shorts Arbuckle and Keaton made together. The shorts were very popular and quite inventive. For instance, this film features a notable early fourth wall break when, after a girl tells Fatty she loves him after he throws her in a river, the girl's father proclaims the situation is crazy, to which Fatty responds that it's only a two-reeler when leaves no time to build up love scenes. Offered here is a lobby card featuring the two stars, where Keaton tries to get the drop on a moonshiner holding Fatty hostage. The card displays a pinhole in each corner, faint scuffs, and small smudges and stains.
