Midnight Madness by David McMacken (Buena Vista, 1980). Signed Original Acrylic Poster Artwork (31" X 43"). Miscellaneous.
In the vein of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and Scavenger Hunt, this 1980 Walt Disney produced film pitted five teams of misfits (all representing the college "social class") in a dusk-to-dawn competition, known as "The Great All-Nighter," of clues, games, trickery, and fun from the mind of the "game master" Leon. American Werewolf in London star David Naughton leads this film, who with love interest Debra Clinger and Michael J. Fox (his first film appearance!) try to outwit Animal House alum Stephen Furst as the lazy, spoiled Harold who tries to use his computerized custom van to beat all the other teams. Arguably, best known for his 1941 poster, artist David McMacken produced this beautiful piece for the US one sheet, perfectly capturing the five teams rallying across the Los Angeles landscape (maybe not so much Michael J. Fox since it was his film debut). The game board border design and game pieces foreshadow the locations and clues that were found in the film. The artwork itself is in excellent condition with the board showing some minor staining resulting from the working process. There are two deliberate spots of surface paper loss near the Papst Brewery board space which appear in the final version of the poster and three color registration snipes used for when the piece was photographed. Very Fine+.
