Description
Man on the Flying Trapeze (Paramount, 1935). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").Man on the Flying Trapeze is a hilarious entry in the W.C. Fields canon, while also being notable as the final directorial effort of comedic legend Clyde Bruckman. True to Fields' style, the film's beleaguered hero endures a relentless cascade of misfortunes, including traffic tickets, a close call with an oncoming train, an assault by a wrestler, and even an unjust arrest. Adding to his woes, his overly sympathetic colleagues go to absurd lengths, offering support in the form of sympathy cards, wreaths, and even a newspaper obituary for his very much alive mother-in-law. This striking poster, which depicts Fields alongside co-star Mary Brian, is only a second time offering from Heritage Auctions. The poster originally had pinholes, small tears, and fold wear, all of which have been addressed by professional restoration. Part of the background have been airbrushed. A rare and iconic image of one of cinema's greatest comedians.
