Laurel and Hardy Lot; Saps at Sea (United Artists, 1939) and A Chump at Oxford (United Artists, 1940). Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14").
This lot includes two great cards from some of the funniest moments in two of Laurel and Hardy's United Artists films. In Saps at Sea, the boys are about to cook a gangster his meal as ordered. The never daunted duo never let a little thing like not having any food on hand stop them. As the card illustrates, Stan substitutes a boat sponge that he cuts up for meatballs, and Ollie offers twine for the spaghetti! This card shows only top border small edge wear with tears, light border smudges, and some corner bumps. The A Chump at Oxford card is for one of the best gags in the entire film. Look at the costumes the Boys are wearing. Student Peter Cushing! asks them..."Haven't you come to the wrong college?" To which they reply, "Isn't this Oxford?" Yes," he says, "'re dressed for Eton!!" Stan then says, "Why, that's swell, we haven't eaten since breakfast, have we Ollie?" The card has had light restoration for pinholes in the corners and image, and small tears in the right border. Fine.
