Description

Jerry and the Vampire (Mutual, 1917). One Sheet (27" X 41").
This gorgeous 1917 stone lithograph is for a film starring one of the most successful comedians of the 1915-1925 era, who remains largely unknown today. Consider this: the delightful poster you see here is the seventy-third "Jerry" film that fine funnyman, George Ovey, made for Cub Comedies. He would star in 81 "Jerry" short comedies from 1915-1917. He began his stage career with the Beach and Bowers Minstrels in Kansas City, next appearing in Universal Rainbow Comedies during 1918-1920. In 1921, the Pacific Film Company was producing for independent release and Ovey was signed to star in a series of 26 one-reel comedies, as was Vernon Dent. Pacific Film provided Ovey's final starring roles and the latter twenties found him as comic relief in Universal serials. Ovey would spend the sound era largely in sixty plus feature films with mostly uncredited roles. This knock-out poster features Ovey and Goldie Colwell in a wonderfully costumed "parlor scene." Before minimal restoration and expert linenbacking, there were pinholes in the corners and image, slight fold wear, and chips along the left border. Fine- on Linen.
