    Description

    Hollywood Party (MGM, 1934). Cut Pressbook (28 Pages, 13.25" X 1975"). Comedy.
If you've waited for something extraordinary on The Three Stooges, or Laurel and Hardy, Mickey Mouse, Jimmy Durante, or Lupe Velez...this is it! This is most of an incredibly rare pressbook for one of the wackiest cameo musical comedies ever put together. If you've never seen Lupe Velez putting an egg down Oliver Hardy's pants and squishing it into his groin, right after she attacks a phone screaming "You Piece of Chit.!!!" you've missed some golden moments in pre-Code screen comedy. Starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Jimmy Durante, Jack Pearl, Polly Moran, Lupe Velez, George Givot, Mickey Mouse, Charles Butterworth, Walt Disney, Ruth Channing, Larry Fine, Curly Howard, Moe Howard. Directed by Roy Rowland, Richard Boleslawski, Allan Dwan, Edmund Goulding, Russell Mack, Charles Reisner, George Stevens, Sam Wood. The covers are missing, and there are three pages with small cuts in the newspaper ad section, but this is just too good a piece to waste. Many of the pages have separated in the middle where folded due to being printed on cheap newsprint, but mostly the damage is on the edge wear with small tears and chips. What is wonderful and mostly intact are the large caricature examples of artwork that could be used for advertising. There are at least three of these panels with The Three Stooges depicted, even one with the trademark eye poke! The artwork is by the brilliant Russian, Constantin Alajalove. There are two pages of ads with artwork by Soglow (creator of The Little King in the New Yorker) for a special teaser campaign. There's an amazing four page heavy yellow paper insert with photos of the oversize deluxe photos, and illustrations on how all the posters from the 24 sheets down to the one sheet should be cut up and balloons added! (And that's one of the reasons you can't find posters on this title!). This would be fantastic with the pages unfolded and put together in an oversize plastic sheet notebook for viewing. Some of the pages are most likely in need of some degree of work or restoration, or may have major or minor restoration. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Folded, Good/Very Good.
