Description
Hollywood (Paramount, 1923). Insert (14" X 36").James Cruze directs this fantastic early comedy about the glitz and glamour and dream of Hollywood in the silent era. The plot centers around a young country girl, played by Hope Drown, who comes to Tinseltown hoping to make it big, but everyone except her (including grandpa, grandma, boyfriend, etc.) becomes a star. The plot is not nearly important as the stream of star cameos that this film showcases, including Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Cecil B. DeMille, Pola Negri -- and featured on this stunning insert, in gorgeous color -- we have portraits of William S. Hart and Will Rogers lassoing Leatrice Joy, Colleen Moore, Mary Astor, Myrna Loy, Gloria Swanson, Mary Pickford, Betty Compson... A truly one-of a kind item, this is the only format that has these great portraits, rather than caricatures of the stars; many of whom were just beginning their careers, waiting for their big break. The insert shows only light smudging at the bottom, a small tear and crease at the top edge, a minor tear in the left and right borders, and a small bend in the top left corner. These minor issues do not detract from the sensational artwork of this remarkable find. For all fans of early Hollywood, this rare poster is the ultimate prize. Folded, Very Fine-.
