Alberto Vargas (1896-1982) was a Peruvian-born American artist best known for his iconic pin-up paintings, which became legendary in the 20th century. Vargas gained fame in the 1940s for his "Vargas Girls" in Esquire, and later in the 1960's for Playboy Magazine. His blend of classic technique, stylized eroticism, and pop culture appeal places him among the greatest pin-up artists of all time and his work remains some of the most recognized and collectible of 20th-century American illustration. This original drawing, depicting a reclining Du Barry, is accomplished in graphite and colored pencil, with an image size of 19" X 28".
