    Description

Daddy Long Legs (First National, 1919). Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27.25" X 41.25").
America's cinematic sweetheart, Mary Pickford, plays a mistreated orphaned girl with an anonymous benefactor (Mahlon Hamilton) that secretly funds her schooling. When she grows up, she falls for the kind and generous Hamilton, not realizing he is in fact her silent supporter. Marshall Neilan plays the part of a young college boy competing for Mary's affections, while Milla Davenport acts as the cruel matron of a miserable orphanage. Known as "the girl with the curls" throughout her career, Pickford's youthful beauty allowed her to play this role far younger than her twenty-seven years of age. Professional restoration has addressed edge and fold wear, fold separations, chipping in the folds, and small tears. There was paper loss in the lower border at the very bottom of the First National logo and above the First National text. The borders have been airbrushed and there is some slight touchup in the title and Mary Pickford's credit. This picturesque piece now looks wonderful after these repairs. Fine- on Linen.
