Description

Convict 13 (Metro, 1920). Good/Very Good on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41").
Buster Keaton hit it big when he met Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle in 1917, and soon the were teamed up in a series of shorts together. Studio executive Joseph Schenck was so impressed by the young star that he gave him his own production unit, where he made many two-reelers, including One Week, The Haunted House, Cops, The Frozen North, and, offered here, Convict 13. The film centers around a would-be professional golfer who gets in the way of an escaping convict, and the convict knocks him out and changes clothes with him, so, of course, the police take him to prison thinking he is the escaped convict. It includes one of his most dangerous stunts that he performed in vaudeville: Keaton would swing a basketball tied to the end of a rope, while his father was shaving himself, with the ball getting closer and closer. Here, he does the same, knocking out the revolting inmates and saving the day. Note that this is one of the very few early movies with significant golf scenes. It was these very successful shorts that led to Keaton making feature-length films, where he continued to perform his most beloved stunts and gags. This excellent stone litho poster has under gone restoration to address chips and tears in the interior, and touchup has been applied to boost the color. The borders have been replaced with the exception of some original paper in the bottom and left sides. There was paper loss in the bottom corners extending into the black background and title area, however all has been skillfully recreated with restoration.
