    Description

A Night at the Opera (MGM, R-1948). Folded, Fine+. One Sheet (27" X 41"). Al Hirschfeld Artwork.
After signing on with MGM after running amuck at Paramount, the boy's first project at the new studio was a stab at society (as usual) and their high-brow attitudes and appreciation for all things classical-- including Opera. To this day, A Night at the Opera is considered one of the Marx Brothers' masterpieces of irreverent humor. A classic Al Hirschfeld image, this one sheet borrows the instantly recognizable artwork from the original release window card. Signs of handling include slight edge and fold wear, a few fold separations, minor chips, and small tears, including a tear that extends into Chico's hat. The poster has pinholes, light creases, as well as tape stain bleedthrough in the borders and crossfolds. There is a piece of masking tape and several small pieces of archival tape on the verso.

    Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
