Description

A Day at the Races (MGM, 1937). Rolled, Very Fine+. Insert (14" X 36") Al Hirschfeld Artwork.
The Marx Brothers were already major stars by the time they left Paramount Studios, having conquered Broadway and the silver screen. Two of the funniest pictures of their careers, A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races, resulted from their move to MGM and association with producer, Irving Thalberg. In this film, the trio star with a young Maureen O'Sullivan, a woman trying to save her medical facility with the help of a veterinarian (Groucho) posing as a doctor with his accomplices (Harpo and Chico). Established Marx Brothers artist, Al Hirschfeld, provides the terrific art for this piece, showcasing playful caricatures of the brothers. Paper from this period in the Marx Brothers' career is highly sought after, and very scarce. Never folded, this insert is in beautiful condition, with almost no wear at all. From the Ira M. Resnick Collection.
