DescriptionChase and Bachelder's American Museum of Art (c. 1880). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Museum Poster (27.25" X 36.5").
Presented for the first time by Heritage, this poster features a version of John Gast's 1872 painting American Progress, which illustrated the American ideal of Manifest Destiny. Still an important piece in the history of art in the United States, this piece captured much of the essence of American art in the late 1800s. Light touchup has been applied to a few chips, two of which are reattached. Still visible is a tear extending from the lower border through the horse into the background, as well as a faint tape stain.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
