Description

Chamonix Travel Poster (Paris Lyon Mediteranée Rail Line,1930). Poster (24.5" X 39.25") Style B.
French illustrator Roger Broders (1883-1953) created some of the most visually arresting travel posters in the 1920s and 1930s, which are now, eight decades later, soaring in popularity. The artistic ambassador of the PLM (later SNCF) rail line, Broders developed a distinctive style that consisted of bold swatches of flat color, simple lines, and highly pronounced backgrounds and foregrounds. Although masterful with nature and city scapes, Broders's travel scenes that also include people are some of the most highly sought after. This is one of those examples, an action packed piece that specifically promotes the "Championnat du Monde de Hockey sur Glace / 27 Janvier-2 Fevrier 1930." There is a second version of the poster that does not include the event dates. The first winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix in 1924, and this version is considered an unofficial Chamonix Olympic poster by collectors. Energetic reds and cool blues contrast beautifully on this full bleed stone litho, which is a first time offer from Heritage. Whether you're a travel buff, hockey fan, or just appreciate skillful design, this poster is not to be missed! Very Fine+ on Linen.
