Casablanca (Warner Bros., 1948). Folded, Very Fine-. First Post-War Release Austrian Poster (24" X 33.75").
A rarity offered for only the second time at Heritage, this poster was printed during the Allied occupation of Germany and Austria after World War II. Of course, due to the sensitive subject and recent scars the war has left on the countries and their peoples, the studio released a heavily edited dub of the film that removed all references to Nazis, concentration camps, and freedom fighters. It was nearly 25 minutes shorter than the original cut, and an accurate dub of the full film wouldn't be released in German until 1975. In great condition for its age and the paper used after World War II, this Austrian poster displays such indications of use as slight fold separations, light creases, a few very minor chips, and ink stamp bleedthrough. There is some mild toning in the folds due to age, and there are four strips of cellophane tape bracing the folds on the verso. There are few versions of this posters ever presented at auction, making this a great offer for Casablanca completists.
