    Description

Captain Blood (Warner Brothers, 1936). French Grande (47" X 63") Jacques Bonneau Artwork.
Based on the novel by Rafael Sabatini, this movie was a major gamble for Warner Brothers, as it featured no major names. The studio originally cast Robert Donat as Peter Blood, but when he failed to show up for filming, they offered the role to Brian Aherne, who then turned it down. Desperate for a leading man, the studio decided to take a chance on then-unknown Australian actor Errol Flynn, a move that paid off handsomely, as both Flynn and his co-star Olivia De Havilland became box-office superstars after the release of this picture. Featuring a rousing image done in the artistic style of Jacques Bonneau, this original release French grande is a great addition to any collection for swashbuckler fans. This Heritage first has touchup applied to the folds, pinholes, and small border chips. There was paper loss in the lower right corner that extended slightly into the lower right background. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
