    Description

    Caldonia (Astor Pictures, 1945). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
Born in Brinkley, Arkansas in 1908, Louis Jordan would rise to fame as a boogie and blues swing bandleader referred to as "The King of the Juke Boxes." His band was called the "Tympany Five" and he starred in four films including his most famous, Caldonia, a musical short about a man who loses both his Hollywood contract and his girlfriend when he's lured to New York by the promise of a movie career. Jordan was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously in 1987, and the Big Band and Jazz Hall of of Fame in 1998. Finding posters from his films is quite challenging, and this half sheet is a Heritage first. Here, Jordan is touted as the "King of the Bobby Sox Brigade," and plays the sax against a bright background that has retained superb color. Minor signs of wear include staple holes in the corners, tears in the borders, smudging, and a crease at the bottom left. There are two pieces of paper tape on the verso at the top right edge. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
