    Description

Bringing Up Baby (RKO, 1938). Folded, Very Fine-. One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Arguably one of the very best in the genre of screwball comedies, this film, with its frantic pace, absurd antics, and zany pratfalls, truly showed Howard Hawks' directing genius. Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant co-starred together for their second time in this film, though it would certainly not be their last, with the other titles including Sylvia Scarlett, Holiday, and The Philadelphia Story. Original posters for this classic comedy have always been very scarce, since surprisingly, it was not a hit when first released in 1938, despite being considered an unquestioned classic today. Its failure at the box office upon release drove Hepburn back to Broadway, and resulted in director Howard Hawks' firing from his next RKO picture, though both artists would certainly have their revenge. Just two years later, Hepburn made a triumphant return to the screen in The Philadelphia Story and Hawks would go on to direct Sergeant York in 1941, for which he received an Oscar nomination. Signs of handling include minor fold separations, a misfold at the lower crossfold, mild creases, and pinholes. Also apparent are a few minute chips and faint smudges. There are a couple of strips of cellophane tape bracing the crossfolds on the verso.
