Description

Bonnie and Clyde (Warner Brothers-Seven Arts, 1967). Door Panel Set of 4 (20"" X 60"").
Heavily influenced by the then-current French New Wave movement, this exciting picture was originally to have been directed by Francois Truffaut, one of the leaders of that movement. When he bowed out after being given the opportunity to direct Fahrenheit 451 (1966), producers turned to Jean-Luc Godard, but with out success. Finally, the director's chair was given to Arthur Penn, whose earlier film, Mickey One (1965), was also made in the style of the French New Wave and starred Warren Beatty. Although set during the Great Depression, this film perfectly captured the mood of the 1960s counter-culture, making it a huge success both critically and commercially, and ushering in the "New Hollywood" era that would dominate American filmmaking until the early 1980s. Offered here is a set of four very scarce door panels for this landmark film. There is a cast shot, a terrific image of Faye Dunaway and Beatty laughing through the gun shot car window, a portrait of Buck and Blanche (Gene Hackman and Estelle Parsons), and even an excellent close-up of Michael J. Pollard in character. Door panels have always been one of the rarest of poster formats and finding them in a full set is extremely difficult, making this one with only minor edge wear a phenomenal find. Folded, Very Fine+.
