    Description

    Black Sunday (Unidis, 1960). Italian 4 - Fogli (56" X 78.25") Giulano Nistri Artwork.
Generally considered to be the foremost example of Italian Gothic horror, this darkly atmospheric black and white chiller put director Mario Bava on the international map and made the bewitching Barbara Steele a star. Steele plays Princess Asa, a high priestess of Satan who is gruesomely executed in 1600s Moldavia by having a spiked mask hammered into her face. Before she dies, Asa vows revenge on the family who killed her and returns from the grave two centuries later to keep her promise. As always, Giuliano Nistri provides excellent artwork for this Heritage first, which has been professionally restored with corrections to fold wear with small chips, minor tears, and creases. There was an ink censorship stamp in the handprint, surface paper loss above the right side of the credits, and there has been touchup applied to Barbara Steele's face. The top and bottom borders have been airbrushed, with a reattached chip in the top edge of the airbrushing. The side borders were once trimmed, but have been replaced. There are some surface scuffs that are still visible. Fine on Linen.
