    Description

    Ben-Hur (MGM, 1925). Very Good on Paper. Insert (14" X 36").
One of the high points of the silent era, this epic tale focusing on the conflict between Christianity and Rome was the most expensive silent film made, costing an estimated four million dollars. Directed by Fred Niblo, whose other works include the Douglas Fairbanks film The Mark of Zorro and the Greta Garbo picture The Mysterious Lady, Ben Hur features the incredible talents of Ramon Navarro, Carmel Myers, May McAvoy, Francis X. Bushman, and Betty Bronson. Benefitting from very skilled conservation, this vintage insert once showed enlarged pinholes, some tears into the interior, and chips in the borders. There was paper loss from the right side of the upper border along the right border extending somewhat into the background. The borders, orange background, and the sky at the top have been airbrushed and there is additional touchup to Ramon Navarro's portrait. This rare insert for the film is a first time release from Heritage.

    Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
