Battle Hymn (Universal International, 1957). Reynold Brown Original One Sheet Artwork in Gouache (17" X 26") and Artwork Concept Photos (2) (13" X 16").
Renowned artist and illustrator Reynold Brown is known by movie collectors for his remarkable paintings for The Alamo, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Time Machine, Doctor Zhivago...and hundreds more for Universal Studios beginning in the early 1950s. His success lay in his wonderful ability to capture the action and stars with striking detail and color. This gorgeous original painting for the one sheet for this top Douglas Sirk / Rock Hudson film is a prime example of Brown's superb portraiture combined with the action of the Korean refugees at the bottom. It is painted with Brown's preferred medium of gouache, and the image area measures 13" X 20.5." There is a mylar overlay with the tagline, and pencil writing at the bottom. Also included are two vintage gelatin silver, single weight, glossy photos of Rock Hudson, which were used by the art department (the close-up of Hudson is very similar to Brown's illustration). This very special group of photos and original artwork will be a highlight to any top movie poster collection. Very Fine.
