    Description

Atomkrieg Nein (Atomic War-No!) (Switzerland, 1954). Full-Bleed Propaganda Poster (35.5" X 50") Hans Erni Artwork.
This controversial and powerful political poster by Hans Erni has become recognized as one of the greatest posters of its era. It was brilliant and simple in its concept and the title, "Atomic War-No!" screamed a message to a world gripped by fear. By 1949, both the United States and Russia had atomic weapons and by 1954, the race was on for the first thermo-nuclear bomb that would yield a destructive force 100 times greater than the first atomic bombs. Europeans had just survived two World Wars and it appeared a third was imminent with Europe in between the two opposing sides. Erni's design, that of turning the planet Earth into a dead human's skull with the resulting nuclear mushroom cloud devastating all of Europe, became a rallying cry for the anti-nuclear forces. The bottom line on the poster states, "Swiss Movement for Peace." Recognized as one of the most important posters of its era, it has been featured in collections of such esteemed institutions as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). There is light creasing and edge wear with small tears. Rolled, Very Fine.
