Description

    At the Circus (MGM, 1939). Lobby Cards (6) (11" X 14").
A follow-up to the successful A Night at the Opera (1935) and A Day at the Races (1937), this time the setting is a circus, one about to be sold out from under owner Jeff Wilson (Kenny Baker), who rallies hired hand Antonio (Chico Marx), hanger on Punchy (Harpo Marx), and lawyer J. Cheever Loophole (Groucho Marx) to help save the day. Border artwork by Al Hirschfeld. The "Giraffe" card shows a missing top right corner, staple holes in the top left corner and center top border, a diagonal crease at the top left, pinholes and a crease in the bottom border, a stain in the left border, and smudging above Margaret Dumont's head and in the right border. The "Strongman" card has a vertical scratch in the center, and a diagonal bend at the top left. The "Dinner" card has pinholes and a puncture at the center (Groucho's pants). The "Groucho and Chico" card has a dust shadow in the right border, smudging in the top border, pinholes in the borders, and staining in the image area. The remaining cards have diagonal creases and smudges. Please see enlargeable image for greater detail of condition of the cards. From the Theaters of Old Detroit Collection. Fine.
