    Description

    Arthur Freed Academy Awards Lot (1940s-1960s). Signed Birthday Card (6.5" X 8.5"), Signed Card (2.5" X 3.5"), & Script (140 Pages, 8.5" X 11"). Miscellaneous.
This lot features a beautiful hand made and painted birthday card given to producer/songwriter Arthur Freed in 1946. Arthur Freed is probably best known as the producer of such musical hits as An American in Paris (1951) and Singin' in the Rain (1952). The front cover of the card has a beautiful image of a mermaid and lists several of Freed's most successful films to date, including Meet Me In St. Louis, Ziegfeld Follies, and Yolanda and the Thief. Inside the card are fifteen signatures with names of actors, directors, and other professional friends, such as "Kay Thompson," "Bob Alton," "Chuck Walters," "Harry Warren," "Eugene Loring," and "Lennie Hayton." There is also a small undated handwritten card that reads: "Happy Birthday to-morrow, Judy and Vincente," from Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli. This lot includes a script with several revised pages from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Thirty Ninth Annual Awards, which was hosted by Bob Hope. The script is dated April 10,1967 and Arthur Freed's name is written twice on its front cover. Unrestored cards and script that display signs of use. May include light edge or fold wear, small corner bends, or unobtrusive stains. The script has a loose back page and small edge tears. Heritage believes the autographs in this lot to be authentic, but please know before bidding that no Certificate of Authenticity is provided. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Fine/Very Fine.
