Description

The Barn Dance (Columbia, 1929). Very Good on Linen. Stock One Sheet (29" X 41.5").
Following Plane Crazy, The Gallopin' Gaucho, and the groundbreaking Steamboat Willie, 1929's The Barn Dance marked the fourth appearance of the now world-famous cartoon icon, Mickey Mouse. As one of Mickey's earliest outings, it played a pivotal role in shaping the future of animation and solidifying Walt Disney's reputation as a visionary pioneer. After beginning his animation career in Kansas City, Disney relocated to Los Angeles, where he launched successful series such as the Alice Comedies and Oswald the Rabbit. The Barn Dance, which was the first of twelve Mickey shorts released in 1929, follows Mickey as he competes with his rival, Peg-Leg Pete, for Minnie's affections, only to suffer a rare defeat when Pete wins her favor. Collectors prize original posters from this era, particularly those that credit Ub Iwerks, Disney's lead animator, whose departure in 1930 made such mentions increasingly rare. With Mickey's signature grin and iconic oversized features, the cartoon and its promotional materials captured hearts and cemented his status as the most beloved cartoon character of his time. Airbrushing, touchup, and some replacement have been applied throughout to address edge and fold wear, creases, chips, tears, stains, and some paper loss. Additionally, the linen has been trimmed to the borders.
