    Description

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, 1938). Very Fine- on European Linen. First Printing French Grande (47" X 62") Bernard Lancy Artwork.
Heritage is pleased to offer, for its debut appearance, this first printing French grande, created specifically for the first exhibition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in May 1938 at the Marignan Pathe theater in Paris. Walt Disney's gamble on feature-length animation, thought by many to be a doomed endeavor and financial folly, became so popular that it enjoyed extended runs not only in America, but also abroad. It would run for upwards of six months in several European theaters, unseating Al Jolson's The Singing Fool as the most financially successful sound film by 1939. Pre-war posters are scarce as not only were the posters discarded after the films finished their showing in the theaters, but paper was often scrapped in many countries during war times. Light touchup has been applied to the crossfolds, some of the pinholes, and a small splice in the bottom border. Unaddressed wear includes slight fold wear, some pinholes, small tears, and faint stains. There are three ink censorship stamps in the upper background. The linen has been trimmed to the borders in some places and extends slightly into the paper in a few instances. With its lovely Bernard Lancy artwork, this poster presents a wonderful opportunity for early animation aficionados.
