Description
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, 1937). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.Despite the overwhelming skepticism that assailed Walt Disney when he announced his idea for producing a full length animated film, the now legendary Hollywood magic-man forged vehemently ahead. Investing $1.5 million of his own money and three years of toil, Disney's instincts proved to be right on the money. The film became an immediate success, garnering 8.5 million Depression-era dollars. A Technicolor gem, the picture introduces audiences to the charm of angelic Snow White (voiced by Adriana Caselotti), who falls victim to the wicked queen (legendary stage actress Lucille La Verne). Perhaps even more endearing are the devoted seven dwarfs, who continue to win the hearts of audiences nearly eight decades later. They are splendidly rendered at the hands of artist Gustaf Tenggren on this one sheet, as they surround the sweetly smiling Snow White. Bright and vivid color brings to life the brilliantly conceived cast of characters based on the 1812 Brothers Grimm fairly tale. This style B version has been paperbacked and touchup applied to a chip and tear in the left border, a paper lift on the verso at the right border, fold wear, pinholes in the corners, and a pinhole in the top and bottom background. An exceptional piece of cinematic history! Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
