Description

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, 1937). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.
Walt Disney's first feature length animated film was a true labor of love for him, taking over three years to complete. The result was a truly classic work of art, delighting and enchanting movie audiences young and old alike for generations. Filmed in Technicolor, the production was a tour-de-force for Disney and the film's success was immediately apparent, landing Disney and his characters on the cover of Time magazine and ushering in the era of prestige production animated features. Adriana Caselotti voices the angelic Snow White, who falls victim to the wicked queen (voiced by legendary stage actress Lucille La Verne). Original release posters for the film have become extremely collectible and hard to find, especially this style B one sheet, which features beautiful artwork by famed illustrator Gustaf Tenggren. A special addition to this lot is a delightful letter of provenance, written by the daughter of the military officer in charge of the Post Theater at Fort Knox, Kentucky, around the time of the release of Snow White. The story had been one of the officer's favorites since he was a boy, and when the picture had finished its run at the theater, he was given the one sheet, which immediately went into his daughter's scrapbook. Only light signs of wear can be detected, such as pinholes in the corners, crossfold separation with small paper loss, light vertical creases, and light stains on the verso that have caused some wrinkling in the front corners. Otherwise, the piece shows very nicely and is an exceptional piece of Disney memorabilia! Fine/Very Fine.
