    Popeye (Paramount, 1938). Stock Standee (20" X 36").
For a kid of the late 1930s, seeing this Popeye standee in front of the theatre or in the lobby announcing "Popeye, Now Playing," was sure to illicit a giddy response and inspire a plan to finagle from their parents the 25? for the show ticket. They were content to sit through Bette Davis wringing her hands, and even Barbara Stanwyck and William Holden smooching, if they could watch their Popeye beat the dickens out of the huge, evil Bluto. This studio stock standee is in great condition given its intended use. There is a 4" tear in the bottom border, two small tears at the top, one tear in the orange imprint area, and vertical and diagonal creases from the middle to the bottom border. The easel is still intact on the verso and its ready to display with the square spot intended for a cartoon title! Don't overlook one of the rarest vintage animation pieces you're likely to see. Fine+.
