Pinocchio (RKO, 1940). Very Fine- on Linen. British Double Crown (20" X 30").
Heritage has only very rarely had the opportunity to offer British paper for this beloved adaptation of Carlos Collodi's moralistic fairy tale, and this lovely double crown marks the first time we have ever offered a British Pinocchio poster from its original release. Great Britain instituted a rationing policy on paper almost as soon as it entered WWII in September, 1939, meaning that printing restrictions were already well in place by the time of this movie's release in March of the next year. This most likely led to a far diminished number of printed advertisements for the film, and it would also be fair to assume that many of the day's movie posters fell victim to recycling efforts and were pulped down for reuse. Disney collectors may notice that this charming double crown shares the same image as the very rare style B one sheet, which many hobbyists consider to be the better of the two American styles. A lovely piece with good color, this first time offering from Heritage looks wonderful after professional touchup to a couple of slivers of paper loss in the upper and lower left edges, as well as a few small tears in the right border. Still visible is unaddressed mild edge wear at the top and bottom, but the poster otherwise shows no further defects and displays beautifully.
