    Description

Mickey Mouse Stock Poster (United Artists, 1932). One Sheet (27" X 41").
By 1931, Walt Disney was impatient with his current contract at Columbia Studios, as the studio was extremely frugal and unwilling to advance him enough money to make the kind of quality product he dreamed of. So in 1932 Disney went in search of a new distributor for his cartoons and found a willing partner with United Artists. By that time, Mickey Mouse was already a major star and UA knew they would have a "winner" with the lovable mouse and Disney's other cartoons. UA created a favorable agreement and advanced Disney $15,000 per cartoon short. It was a beautiful partnership as the higher budgets gave Disney his creative freedom and Mickey Mouse would become one of Hollywood's most famous stars! Offered in this lot is the first Mickey Mouse one sheet poster produced by United Artists for it's newly signed sensation! The poster has a slight surface scratch in the lower right border extending as a darker mark just into the artwork. There are small tears along the upper vertical fold and two small "v" shaped tears in the upper border. There has been slight color touchup to the folds. The poster has the look of being an early color strike test done for the printer as the H.C. Miner Litho logo did not take fully to the print in the lower right and some of the blacks are also weak in areas of the print. The two punctures in the upper border may indicate this was a test copy as often the lithographer would pull proofs and put them up on two pegs to inspect before refining the print. Very Fine- on Linen.
