    Description

Mickey Mouse in The Barn Dance (Columbia, 1929). Fine on Linen. Stock One Sheet (29" X 42").
After a short stint in the early 1920s producing cartoons in Kansas City, novice animator Walt Disney moved to Los Angeles, where he launched his innovative Alice Comedies and the popular Oswald the Rabbit series. By 1928, he struck out on his own to form his own studio with a new headlining mascot, the now iconic Mickey Mouse. For his debut, Disney's mischievous rodent had a starring role in three animated shorts, the third of which was the first ever synchronized sound cartoon, Steamboat Willie. Within a few short years, Mickey Mouse was to become the most popular cartoon ever created. Posters from Mickey's early days before Disney made the switch from Columbia to United Artists are a rare treat, including this stock one sheet from The Barn Dance, the famous mouse's fourth short. In this cartoon, Mickey must compete with Pete for the affections of Minnie, and in a seldom-seen twist, his rival comes out on top! But the real rarity to this one sheet is that it mentions animator Ub Iwerks on the poster. Originally the main animator behind Mickey, Iwerks left Disney in 1930, and his name was blackened off all further poster printings or left off of the poster entirely. With his beloved impish grin and trademark oversized feet and ears, Mickey here appears ready to talk, sing and dance his way into the hearts of moviegoers worldwide. The poster has been restored on linen to address fold wear, small tears, and paper loss in three borders, some of which extends slightly into the background. The image is fully intact and the color is quite strong, making this an irresistible find for dedicated collectors! Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000.
