Description

Mickey Mouse in Building a Building (United Artists, 1933). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. One Sheet (27" X 41").
A prime example of early Walt Disney excellence, and a truly fantastic first-time offer from Heritage. Featuring two of animation's most famous characters of all time, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, this poster depicts the duo in a charming, loving pie and milk lunch break from skyscraper construction, happily though precariously perched astride a protruding plank. Released the following year that Walt Disney received his special Oscar for the creation of Mickey, Building a Building was one of the best shorts released by United Artists after their previous studio, Columbia, refused to raise the production budget over $13,500 per short, and earned Disney an Oscar nomination for best Cartoon Short Subject. The move proved to be a prolific one as it ushered in the "Golden Age" of Mickey Mouse posters. A spectacular stone litho example, this one sheet for Building a Building is incredibly rare, as highlighted by having never being handled by Heritage before. Directed by David Hand, and starring the voices of Walt Disney, Marcellite Garner, and the legendary "Dean of Hollywood Voicemen," Pinto Colvig. This completely unrestored "survivor" poster of over 90 years of age shows very minor even toning throughout, a faint extra horizontal and two extra vertical folds, minor openings and separations at fold junctions and extremities, a 2" clean tear at center top fold, several tiny tears around perimeter, and several very small strips of archival hinging tape remaining from previous frame and mat removal. An extraordinary unaltered artistic and historical artifact. From the Sam Sarowitz Collection.
