    Description

    Barney Google's Patch Mah Britches (Columbia, 1935). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.
The creation of cartoonist Billy DeBeck, Barney Google first appeared as a daily strip in the sports sections of the Chicago Herald and Examiner in 1919, and was originally titled Take Barney Google, F'rinstance. The title character was a little man with large "banjo" eyes attracted to poker, horse racing and prize fights. The comic was so popular it was adapted to film, animation, song and television. In the mid 1930s, production company Charles Mintz Screen Gems made four Barney Google cartoons, including "Patch Mah Britches." Boasting "Hill-Billy Hilarity!" this very rare stone litho one sheet is a terrific find for animation/comic strip buffs. It has had minimal touchup to a chip in the bottom, left and top border, a bottom crossfold chip, and pinholes in the borders. There is a bit of discoloration in the very bottom section, most likely from adhesive. Fine+ on Linen.
