Description
Anastasia (20th Century Fox, 1997). Very Fine/Near Mint. Matted Original Poster Artwork Composition on Illustration Board (24.25" X 33.5").After growing up on Disney's animated films, young Don Bluth knew he wanted to be an animator, and in 1971, he joined Disney, working on such films as Robin Hood, The Rescuers, and The Fox and the Hound. But after creative differences with studio executives, he decided to strike out on his own, establishing his own animation studio. He directed such critically acclaimed films as The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, and the video game Dragon's Lair. Bluth and his animation partner Gary Goldman were then hired to create a brand new animation studio at Fox. Their first film with the studio was a loose retelling of the tumultuous fall of the Romanov dynasty in Russia and the fabled missing heir to the Tzarist throne, the titular Anastasia. Accomplished in airbrush, acrylic, colored pencil, and ink on Crescent illustration board, this fully-realized poster concept artwork was created by John Lakey, a credited pre-production designer on the project. The exquisite composition features all major characters from the modern animated classic. Some elements of the artwork were accomplished on other leaves and excised into or pasted-up on the main board to achieve a completed montage composition. The piece is signed and dated at lower right "Lakey '97." In excellent condition, the art show only a few minute smudges.
