    Description

The Theatre Collection: Drawings by William Auerbach-Levy (Museum of the City of New York, 1977). Posters (4) (22" X 27.75"). Miscellaneous.
This lot contains four posters from the Museum of the City of New York's exhibition of artist William Auerbach-Levy's collection of caricatures of personalities that spans a career of forty years. This lot includes Greta Garbo in Anna Karenina (1935), John Barrymore in his first talking picture General Crack (1929), Paul Muni, Tony Randall, Louis Hector, Ed Begley in Inherit the Wind (1955), and Ed Wynn in the variety show Laugh, Town, Laugh (1942). Restored posters with a clean overall appearance. They may have very minor signs of use, such as light edge wear, and very light creases. Although the posters are backed on linen, no restoration efforts have been made. The Greta Garbo poster does not have the museum publication date in the lower border area, and cannot be verified that it is from the original 1977 publication. A poster graded Very Fine+ may still be on Linen, but this is the highest grade allowed for a poster in this state. Grades on all restored items are pre-restoration grades. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Very Fine+ on Linen.
