Description

Terry-Toons Stock Poster (20th Century Fox, 1944). One Sheet (27" X 41"). Animator Paul Terry produced cartoons from 1916-1968. Terry-Toons is best known for characters like Mighty Mouse, Tom Terrific, and for being the first studio to use the cel method of creating animation. Terry also launched the careers of famous animators like Dan Gordon (creator of "The Flintstones"), Joe Barbera (co-founder of Hanna-Barbera) and Ralph Bakshi ("The Lord of the Rings"). Uninterested in innovation or feature films, Terry-Toons produced low-budget cartoon shorts that allowed theater owners to save money while being assured of reliably funny, inoffensive cartoons featuring cuddly animals. This stock poster with many of the studio's adorable characters was overprinted for the 1944 release "Gandy Goose in Ghost Town." It has some edge tears without paper loss, minor fold and cross-fold separation without paper loss, and a bit of soiling in the margins. The colorful characters are bright and adorable. A great World War II-era poster for the animation fan. Fine+.
