    Description

    Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in The Hunter (Universal, 1931). One Sheet (27" X 41").
    In 1927, young Walt Disney created a new character for Universal, "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit," that bore a resemblance to his later creation, the iconic "Mickey Mouse." Shortly thereafter, Disney's contract was terminated, and in 1929 Universal acquired the rights to Oswald the Rabbit. The studio then hired Walter Lantz to oversee the series, and the artist slowly changed the appearance of Oswald from Disney's original design. The Hunter is just one of the nine Oswald shorts made in 1931, almost all of which were voiced by the uncredited Mickey Rooney. Lantz helmed this short subject cartoon and would go on to introduce Woody Woodpecker to the world in 1940. Meanwhile, after Disney's departure from Universal he began creating new characters, one of which became Mickey Mouse, and of course, the rest is history. This extremely rare one sheet, with its Mickey-esque version of Oswald, would make a fabulous addition to any animation collection. The poster has been professionally restored to address fold wear with small chips, chips in the left and right border, and pinholes in the borders. Fine+ on Linen.
