DescriptionAn American in Paris by Roger Soubie (MGM, c.1960s). Rolled, Fine/Very Fine. Signed Gouache Original Artwork on Paper (47" X 63") used for the French Grande.
Poster painter Roger Soubie translates this film's iconic image into his own style, undeniably improving the base illustration with his bright colors and dynamic lines. A cinematic classic, this picture tells the story of World War II G.I. Gene Kelly, who moves to Paris after the war so he can pursue his art. Of course, complications arise when he inevitably falls in love with a young French girl (Leslie Caron). The film would earn six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Writing. A first time offer from Heritage, this lovely painting has signs of handling such as slight edge wear, light creasing, pinholes, and small tears. There is a minor chip in the top left corner, some stains and mild smudging in the borders, as well as a light dust shadow along the bottom left edge. The piece has inked and penciled production notes in the borders and right background. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
